What makes the Ford F150 Raptor special?

There is no doubt that the Raptor is a special truck. When it was introduced in 2009 it was the first truck offered by one of the Big 3 (Ford, GM, Fiat/Chrysler) that was capable of competing in off-road races that was available to the public. It brings back memories of when the car manufactures would make special editions of their cars so that the could compete in Nascar races on Sunday such as the Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird [1]. These special versions of stock vehicles were highly desirable in the 70's when muscle cars were at their peak and as such became some of the most expensive classic muscle cars to date. The Raptor captures that same spirt by being a vehicle that you can purchase at the dealer and take it off the lot and enter it in a race. The F150 is one of the only trucks to enter in stock form and be able to complete the Baja 1000, one of the hardest offroad races in the world. So if the truck can withstand the brutal conditions in that race it should not have any issue being able to handle any task you throw at it in your day to day tasks.

So with this high of a pedigree and capability it also brings with it a high price tag. The Ford Raptor is one of the most expensive trucks available on the new or used market so you may not be able to afford a factory spec F150 raptor. But don't worry, unless you are planning on going off-road racing you probably do not need the extra suspension travel and high quality fox shocks that come on the F150. If that is the case you can purchase one of the lower trim models such as the F150 XLT, Lariat, stx, platinum, fx4, fx2, xl, or king ranch and install this Raptor inspired grill and have the same look for a fraction of the cost!
